How fees work

What you pay depends on your plan, or on how you choose to pay. Every answer here is plain, and the front desk goes through yours before your first visit.

  • Insurance we work with

We bill Medicare and many other plans. Your plan has its own rules, and we tell you before you book whether we work with it. If you are not sure which plan you have, bring the card.

    • Medicare Part B

    • Medicare Advantage plans, case by case

    • Medicaid

    • Many employer and individual plans

  • If you pay yourself

You can pay for care without insurance. Ask the front desk how it works before you book, and we will explain it in writing.

  • An estimate in advance

If you are not using insurance, you have a right to a Good Faith Estimate of what care is expected to cost, in writing, before you start. If a bill comes in $400 or more above that estimate, you can dispute it.

  • Checking your benefits

Before your first visit, the front desk checks what your plan covers and calls you with the answer. Copays, deductibles and visit limits all vary, so we go through yours with you or with your son or daughter.

  • A conversation, an evaluation of how you move and a first set of exercises. You leave with a plan written in large print and a clear idea of what comes next.

Medicare

Medicare, in plain words

Most people who come to us have Medicare. Here is how it fits with physical therapy.

  • Medicare Part B

Part B can help pay for outpatient physical therapy when your therapist and your doctor agree it is needed. Your therapist writes the plan of care, and a doctor signs it.

  • Your share

Part B usually leaves you with a share of each visit, which a supplement plan may cover. The front desk looks at yours and tells you what to expect.

  • A Medicare Advantage plan

These plans set their own rules, such as which clinics they work with or whether they want approval first. We check before you book, and we tell you what we find.

Questions about paying

Does my plan cover this, and do you take Medicare?

We bill Medicare and many other plans. Your plan decides what it pays, so we check your benefits and call you before your first visit.

What if my plan does not cover everything?

We tell you before you start, in plain words, and we talk through your choices, including fewer visits with more home practice.

Can my son or daughter handle the paperwork?

Yes, with your permission. The front desk is happy to talk with a family member and to send questions by mail or email.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes. We can give you a receipt after each visit if you want to send it to a supplement plan or to keep for your taxes.

What happens if I need more visits than my plan covers?

We bring it up early, not at the last minute. Together we decide whether to carry on, change the plan or move you to a class or a home program.

Want to know what to expect?

Call the front desk with your cards in hand. They will go through it with you, or with your son or daughter.
